29 cars at one blow

The US travel I made in 1991 turned out to become a great success. One of my business friends offered me to buy 29 Borgward cars which were stored on a car site in Denver. These were amazing news. However, a little later I realized the wreck raising operation of those cars to become sort of an adventure.

Who should make the vehicles fit for transport? Who is going to organise the transport and the necessary container? And above all how high are the costs? In order to enable a thorough planning I received an option of 6 months. By then a decision must be made.

In April 1992 I decided to buy the cars. I wanted them. We were flying to Los Angeles, two men of my staff and myself, there we rented a car and drove to Denver. When we arrived a hard job began. We were lucky to get acquainted with an American who sympathized with those crazy Germans.

After a day of "hidden observation" Carol offered his tools, electricity and a forklift truck. If this had not turned out we could not have taken home everything that seemed important to me.

Alas we could not take all the cars to Germany, the transport and further costs would have been higher than their market value. So they were degraded to spare parts contributing to the revival of many Borgward cars.

The shift gears will certainly last for the coming years.

The car bodies we had to leave behind us in Denver will be gladly used as fir-cone storage for animal Borgward friends. We learnt that a Borgward car does not merely enjoy people but American squirrels, too.

Carol's forklifter was of great help when we loaded the cars onto the trucks.

The container was filled with cars and spare parts over three levels.

The American numberplates we took with us are wonderful memories of the adventure USA.

Ten days after our arrival in the States everything was packed and shipped on the way to good old Germany.
